Speakers Bio
Eric J. Wittenberg is an award-winning Civil War historian. His specialty is cavalry operations, with a particular emphasis on the Army of the Potomac’s Cavalry Corps. He is the author of sixteen published books. His first book, Gettysburg’s Forgotten Cavalry Eric J. Wittenberg Actions, was named the third winner of the Robert E. Lee Civil War Roundtable of Central New Jersey’s Bachelder-Coddington Literary Award as the best new work interpreting the Battle of Gettysburg of 1998. Other works of his have been chosen as main selections by the History and Military Book Clubs, and his work uniformly receives good reviews. He is also the author of more than two dozen published articles on Civil War cavalry operations. His articles have appeared in Gettysburg Magazine, North & South, Blue & Gray, Hallowed Ground, America’s Civil War, and Civil War Times Illustrated.
He maintains a popular and well-regarded blog, Rantings of a Civil War Historian, and is the owner and moderator of the popular Civil War Discussion Group Online.

Steve French is a resident of Hedgesville and history teacher at Martinsburg South Middle School. He is a member of the Berkeley County Historical Society, Friends of the Western Maryland Room, Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table, The Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the Stuart-Mosby Society. His numerous Civil War articles Steve Frenchhave been appeared in The Washington Times, Gettysburg Magazine, North&South Magazine, Crossfire-The Magazine of the American Civil War Round Table U.K., The Southern Cavalry Review, and the Maryland Cracker Barrel. He is the author of the multiple award-winning Imboden's Brigade in the Gettysburg Campaign and The Jones-Imboden Raid on the B&O Railroad in Rowlesburg, Virginia. He is also the editor of  Four Years Along the Tilhance-The Diary of Elisha Manor- a book that tells about the Civil War activities in the Hedgesville area. Tim Snyder is graduate of Williamsport schools. He holds a master's degree in history and has published several articles on Maryland's history during the Secession Crisis and Civil War. He has also written a book manuscript on the C&O Canal during the Civil War that is under review by a publisher.

Karlton Smith is a Park Ranger at Gettysburg National Battlefield were he
has interpreted Civil War history for over 20 years.  Previously Karton
worked at Independence National Historical Park where he told the history
of the Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution.  Karlton has conducted extensive reseach into the medical practices used during the Civil War and has presented this aspect of 19th century history to thousands of visitors over the years.

Roger Keller is the author of more than six books on local history. Among them are two critically acclaimed studies of the Civil War in Hagerstown and Washington County
